Disney’s Zootopia Teaches Important Lessons About Life

I have always loved finding the important life lessons in Disney movies. Whether it’s to “just keep swimming,” “hakuna matata” or seeing the importance of “Ohana,” Disney knows how to promote life lessons by using humor and pulling at your heart-strings. For those that are young or just young at heart, Disney movies invoke feelings of sadness, love and happiness, but they especially make viewers think about life!

For those who don’t know, Zootopia is about a city where all animals live together in peaceful harmony. It is where a fox and a rabbit can be best friends, a lion can be the mayor and predators and prey happily coexist. It is a heartwarming story about friendship, following your dreams and accepting others for who they are. For me, Zootopia is now on the top of my list next to Inside Out and Frozen for not only being instant Disney classics but also being incredibly inspiring.

Zootopia offers wonderful life lessons which leads to meaningful conversations for families. By using humor and likable characters, Disney delves into some very important topics.

3 Life Lessons from Zootopia

Never Give Up

One of main themes of this movie is to never give up on your dreams and keep fighting for what you want. Zootopia starts with a young bunny named Judy who wants to be a police officer even though there has never been a bunny cop in Zootopia. She works very hard to achieve her goal and to prove everyone wrong. It’s a wonderful way to show kids that determination and perseverance can pay off in the end!

Try Everything, Be Anything

If you want to be an elephant, then be an elephant. Okay, so maybe you can’t be another species but you can turn that passion into something meaningful like starting a fundraiser to save the elephants. Zootopia is all about breaking the mold, going against the norm and getting rid of stereotypes. It’s where a gazelle can be a pop star and a sloth can run the DMV (yes, it is as funny as you think it will be!) In Zootopia, an animal can be anything he or she wants to be!

Don’t Judge a Book By Its Cover

Zootopia helps kids learn about the important topics of racism, profiling and stereotypes in a relatable way. These actual words are not the focus but the actions are prominent in this movie. Zootopia helps teach children not to judge others by their appearance and never assume you know what they think, feel and do just by the way they look. Just because he is a fox doesn’t mean he is sneaky and sly. It is important to get to know someone before making any judgments about who they are inside.

Those are just a few of the lessons we learned by watching Disney Pixar’s Zootopia. What did you learn?
